Nestor Grajales has been in the desktop publishing field for twenty years. He started as a typesetter for a local Orlando magazine using the initial Apple, but now defunct, LISA computer and PageMaker 1.0, not to mention the T-Square and wax rollers. During this period of time Nestor tried to maintain himself his knowledge in all aspects of the publishing world. From PageMaker to QuarkXpress 6 and now InDesign 3, Digital Darkroom to Photoshop 7 and from Illustrator 88to the new CS version. Over the years Nestor has seen the Desktop Publishing arena grow and encompass the transition from paste-up mechanicals to electronic page production, proof flats to online PDF soft proofing, acetate film to digital media and four color film separations to CTP processes.
Nestor's primary source of education has been his real world experience. Nevertheless, he attended college as time permitted and received his A.S. in Graphics Technology from Valencia Community College
Nestor has spent the last four years working full-time for Harcourt School Publishers. Prior to this position he was the senior graphic artist at Sprint Publishing. As a production manager for Harcourt, he works in the Technical Production Services Department which oversees technical development and electronic set up for the various textbook programs. Nestor enjoys meeting new challenges in the evolving print world. He likes being involved in new processes, and engaged in research and development for new software applications and the publishing workflows.
Nestor enjoys fencing, playing softball, running, plastic model & miniature buildings in his free time.
Nestor has been an adjunct instructor for the Graphics Technology Program at Valencia Community College since 2003. He also teaches a sport fencing course for the PE Department.
