Prerequisites: Minimum grades of C in GRA 1142 or in both GRA 1500 and GRA 1800 or departmental approval.
Includes the history and classification of type. Contemporary type usage will be explored. Projects in type design and production include the use of a personal computer and industry-standard software. This course covers the undertanding of type style usage in design and type terminology, as well as developments in desktop publishing that are affecting typography. Projects include type design, page layout, and web page concepts.
This course covers printer's measurements, copyfitting, history of typography and recognition of popular type faces, specification of type, proofreading and marking proofs. Students prepare camera-ready layouts, both traditionally and computer generated, with specific emphasis on type selection.
Computer Literacy: Students are expected to apply computer knowledge obtained in their prerequisite course. The instructor will provide instruction for computer processes needed beyond prerequisite exposure. You should reach an intermediate competency level upon completion of this course
